Flat White Recipe

Here's a simple recipe for making a flat white:

Ingredients:

  • Espresso (one or two shots)

  • Milk (preferably whole milk)

Instructions:

  1. Brew one or two shots of espresso and pour them into a flat white cup.

  2. Heat the milk in a separate container until it reaches around 140°F (60°C). You can heat the milk on the stovetop or in the microwave. Be careful not to overheat the milk, as it can scorch and ruin the flavor.

  3. Use a steam wand on your espresso machine to froth the milk. Hold the steam wand at an angle so that it creates a whirlpool effect in the milk.

  4. Continue frothing the milk until it reaches a velvety microfoam consistency, which is smoother than the foam used in a cappuccino or latte. The milk should be shiny and free of large bubbles.

  5. Tap the milk jug against the counter to knock out any large bubbles, then swirl it to mix the milk and foam.

  6. Pour the frothed milk over the espresso in the flat white cup, aiming for a 1:1 ratio of espresso and milk.

  7. Use a spoon to scoop out any remaining foam and top it onto the flat white.

  8. Optional: use a sharp tool such as a toothpick to create latte art on the surface of the milk foam.

Enjoy your homemade flat white!
